GEO: Make Your Brand Visible in AI Answers

GEO does not replace SEO. It adds a new question: Is your brand named in AI answers as a relevant source, solution or expert?

The short answer

Build a practical GEO system around real customer questions, coherent topic clusters, answer-ready content, solid technical foundations, credible external mentions and measurement that extends beyond clicks.

From keyword research to prompt research

Prompt data is less transparent than classic search volume. Start with questions heard in sales and support, alternatives buyers compare, related search questions, customer language and the decisions where your brand should credibly appear. Keywords remain useful demand signals; they are no longer the whole picture.

The GEO playbook

  1. Inventory articles, videos, transcripts, cases and expert knowledge by topic.
  2. Build a strong hub page for each priority cluster with direct answers, examples, trade-offs and linked detail pages.
  3. Turn conversations into edited assets, not an unfiltered content flood.
  4. Make the people behind the expertise visible through authorship and consistent perspectives.
  5. Earn relevant mentions in editorial media, specialist podcasts, partner sites, reviews and comparison platforms.
  6. Test a stable prompt set monthly and track presence, role, sentiment, cited sources and influenced demand.

From content project to revenue system

The strategic question is not “How do we get into ChatGPT?” It is “In which buying decisions must we be a credible option?” That distinction prevents GEO from turning into another volume-driven content initiative.

Assess visibility across three layers:

This makes GEO a shared operating model. Sales contributes real buyer language and objections. Customer Success identifies where value is actually created. Marketing turns those insights into useful assets. PR, partners and customers create independent reference points.

A practical 30-day GEO sprint

  1. Week 1: Collect 25 recurring questions from calls, support and search data. Prioritize five buying situations.
  2. Week 2: Test those situations across several AI systems. Record which brands, sources and claims appear.
  3. Week 3: Upgrade one hub page with a direct answer, a process, evidence, limitations and clear authorship.
  4. Week 4: Distribute the expertise through video, LinkedIn, partners and relevant editorial platforms, then rerun the same prompts.

Do not optimize for published volume. Measure whether the brand appears more often, more accurately and in the intended role, and whether visibility contributes to qualified demand.

What fails

Thin AI content, isolated posts without topic authority, an owned-site-only view, click-only measurement and neglecting technical fundamentals.

Dominic’s take

GEO is less a brand-new discipline than a wake-up call for good marketing. Answer real questions, make expertise visible and build trust across multiple touchpoints; that helps search, AI answers and Sales at the same time.

Quotes from the episode

“It is not only about Google. It is about Search Everywhere.”
approx. 21:00

“People want to know: Who is behind a company?”
approx. 24:00

“Mentions can be relevant even without a backlink.”
approx. 27:00

Conclusion

GEO is not a trick for a new ranking. It is a repeatable system combining customer understanding, clear expertise, technically sound publishing, credible distribution and a broader measurement model.
